About Us

Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated ® was founded on January 15, 1908 at Howard University. Ethel
Hedgeman Lyle, the moving spirit of Alpha Kappa Alpha envisioned an organization for Black women
designed to provide supreme "Service to all Mankind." On January 29, 1913, Alpha Kappa Alpha became the first
Black Greek Letter Organization (BGLO) established for African-American women.
Since its inception, the mission of the sorority has been to cultivate and encourage high scholastic and ethical standards, to promote unity and friendship among college women, to study and help alleviate problems concerning girls and women in order to improve their social stature, to maintain a progressive interest in college life, and to be of “Service to All Mankind."


The Rho Phi Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated ® was charted May 1989 in Bryan, Texas by 14 illustrious members of the sorority and is a sisterhood that “assists in meeting the needs of the Brazos Valley by providing relevant and quality services to created an informed, unified, and engaged community.” The local chapter has continued the traditions in such programs as the Miss Precious Pearl Scholarship Pageant, voter registration drives, food drives, and census outreach. Back to school supply drive, health screenings, and support of the black family through social gatherings as the black family picnic are other international and local initiatives supported by Rho Phi Omega.

Welcome to the official website for the Rho Phi Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated® where we are of service to all mankind. It is truly an honor to serve as the president of this dynamic and active chapter composed of sorority members, who give their time, talent and resources to meet the needs of Bryan and College Station.

We will continue to work determinedly and safely while implementing programs of service focused on the international program theme of our International President, Dr. Glenda Baskin Glover. We hope that the BCS community and our community partners will join in our efforts to carry out our mission to the people of BCS of “providing relevant and quality services to create an informed, unified, and engaged community.”

The Rho Phi Omega chapter is proud to be a part of this international organization which has devoted service to all mankind since 1908. We are proud to be a part of the first Greek-lettered organization organized by and for college-educated African American women. We are proud to serve our community and be engaged with everyone that needs us.
